One click, everything closed

Free

All your apps, closed in one click.

Spumio Quit closes every open app on your Mac at once: memory is freed right away, and shutting down is faster because nothing is left to close. Then, if you like, it shuts down, restarts or logs out for you.

Spumio Quit in 76 seconds.

From the click on “Quit All” to the Time Machine backup, scheduled quits and Siri.

Features

Quits everything. And thinks of the rest.

Lives in the menu bar, takes up no space in the Dock and is there when you need it: before shutting down, when your Mac slows down, when you want a clean desk.

Quit All

One button closes every open app, or just one from the list. Changed your mind? One click reopens the apps from before.

Then shut down, if you like

Just quit, shut down, restart or log out. Before that, if you like: a Time Machine backup and external drives ejected.

Scheduled quit

In half an hour or at 11 pm: it quits everything and shuts down. A pill counts down, on MacBooks with a notch the last seconds show up right there, and when time is up it asks you to confirm.

Memory freed, measured

See how much memory each app uses, browser tabs included, and how much you got back when you're done.

Tips, never surprises

When memory runs low or an app has been idle for an hour, a bubble suggests quitting it. You decide: it never quits anything on its own, unless you ask it to.

Apps that stay open

One click excludes an app from “Quit All”, and Spumio Quit remembers. Finder is excluded from the start.

Always at hand

From the menu bar icon, the right-click menu or the ⌃⌥⌘Q shortcut, from any app. Want it truly one click? Clicking the icon can quit everything straight away.

Siri and Shortcuts

“Quit everything with Spumio Quit”. The same actions are in Shortcuts for your automations: for example, schedule a shutdown every evening.

Updates on their own

Checks for new versions once a day and lets you know with a discreet button in the panel, with no pop-up windows while you work.

How it works

Three steps, and the last one is a click.

  1. Open the panel

Click the bubble with the power button in the menu bar: you'll see open apps and how much memory they use.

  2. Choose what happens next

Just quit, or quit and then shut down, restart or log out. Exclude the apps you want to keep open.

  3. Press “Quit All”

Apps close as if you'd pressed ⌘Q in each one. At the end you see how many were closed and how much memory you freed.

No lost work

Fast, but never in a hurry with your documents.

Closing everything at once is useful only if it doesn't cost you anything: that's why Spumio Quit closes apps the gentle way.

  • Like ⌘Q, not like a pulled plugEvery app receives the normal quit request and can ask you to save open documents.
  • Apps that don't close are shown to youIf an app is still open after a few seconds, you'll find it in the panel: bring it to the front to answer, or force it to quit — your choice.
  • No shutdown until everything is closedIf you cancel while waiting, the apps stay open and your Mac doesn't shut down or restart.
  • Shortcuts never shut downThe ⌃⌥⌘Q shortcut and the click on the icon only quit apps: shutting down or restarting is always a choice you make in the panel.

FAQ

Before you download.

Is it really free?

Yes: no trial, no subscription, no ads. Spumio Quit is the little sister of Spumio Clean, which frees disk space instead of memory.

Does it quit apps on its own?

Only when you tell it to. Memory and idle-app tips are just suggestions: you choose “Quit” or “Not Now”. Only for the apps where you pick “Always quit automatically” does it close them by itself after an hour of inactivity, gently like ⌘Q, and a bubble lets you reopen them. It never touches the app you are using, or apps playing sound or using the microphone.

Will I lose unsaved documents?

No. Spumio Quit asks each app to quit, exactly like ⌘Q: an app with unsaved changes asks you whether to save them. Only if you choose “Force Quit” for an app that doesn't respond do its unsaved changes get lost, and the panel tells you so before you do it.

Does it really free memory?

Yes: memory used by an app, and by its helper processes like browser tabs, returns to macOS as soon as the app closes. The panel shows how much each app was using and the total freed.

Why does macOS ask for permission the first time I shut down?

To shut down, restart or log out, Spumio Quit asks macOS to do it, like the Apple menu does. The first time, macOS asks you to allow it under Privacy & Security › Automation. If you only quit apps, no permission is needed.

Does it work on the MacBook Neo?

Yes. The MacBook Neo's A18 Pro chip uses the same Apple silicon version as M-series Macs, which is included in the single download along with the Intel version.

Can it start by itself when I turn on my Mac?

Yes: turn on “Open at Login” from the gear in the panel. You'll find it in System Settings › General › Login Items too, where you can turn it off.

How do I uninstall it?

Choose “Quit Spumio Quit” from the gear, then drag the app from the Applications folder to the Trash. If you'd turned on “Open at Login”, turn it off first.
